Under comuter, i single right clicked dvd/cd-rw device. That brought up the amd vision engine control center, i selected format(no erase option). Format came up and had disc capacity @ 687mb, what was left on a 4.7gb disc. How can i erase dvd/cd discs on win8 without adding software?

If the disk is a CD-R or a DVD-R, you can’t erase it. I believe you can make the data on it inaccessible, but you can’t erase it, because it is read-only, and the data is permanently written to it.

If the disk is a CD-RW or a DVD-RW, and the data was not written permanently to the disk, you should be able to erase it. The only software you will need is whatever software came with the drive.
