I purchased a new laptop in Dec 2023 – Lenovo ThinkPad P16.  It came with Windows 11 Pro.  It has 22H2 & keeps telling me it’s “up to date” – it says it checked for updates this morning at 07:18.  It’s never been offered 23H2.  Should I be concerned?  Should I try to force it to get 23H2 – How?

      I got a new ThinkPad P16 in Sept. ’23.

I’ve two questions for you. Why do you want 23H2? And will it help or hurt?

Just last week I let Microsoft install 23H2 from its ISO. That’s mentioned in this thread, Sometimes… I Just Hire Someone Else To Fix The Box. There were minor complications with using 23H2, but the machine is still working OK. But I still downloaded and will keep the original factory image media if I want to wipe the drive and start over.

Why do I want 23H2?  That is a really good question – and I don’t have a good answer.

I assumed we should take these ‘major’ upgrades as they come.  I don’t really think there is anything in 23H2 that I couldn’t do without.  Can I skip 23H2 and just take 24H2 when it comes out?  Or do you have to take them in order?

        Thanks for the good question…

          Win11 22H2 goes EOL in October 2024.
You want 24H2 right when it comes out? And you have no idea what you are getting ahead of time?
Risky at best! Better have at least one full disk image before you upgrade!

You’re welcome! If your Lenovo (Commercial?) Vantage is working well on your box, you could just let Lenovo manage the updates. That way they’re responsible for your smoothly working computer rather than you trying to out-think them.

My Lenovo Commercial Vantage seemed to work most of the time, but inadvertently “ran over a brick on its road” in late April:  I’d had intermittent problems from the beginning with my box and dock not recognizing my 2 external monitors. That problem got worse after Lenovo’s late April updates. But the cause isn’t yet certain. You could read my post I mentioned if want details. Lenovo now wonders if it’s the dock or the dock’s Thunderbolt host cable.
