can't login to windows after installing AVG 2011

hi,

I have received this laptop, the user just installed AVG free 2011, when she logs in, the computer plays the ‘windows start’ sound, then just plays the ‘windows end sound’ and logs off, a helpful hint she gave me: AVG might have found a virus in something called ‘wininit’.

can you help me please?

If you have a Windows XP installation CD try a repair install of XP. See How to perform a Windows XP repair install for details.

The only option is format & reinstall unless some one has other ideas.
