I have two email accounts on my Windows 10 PC.  They are named two different “username.hotmail.com”.  When I type “outlook.com” into Edge,” I get the website of one of the email accounts.  When I type “hotmail.com,” I get the website of the first email account AGAIN instead of the website of the SECOND email account.

This is not the way it worked in Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail.  Then, I typed “hotmail.com” and got a screen where I had to type a user name and PASSWORD to get to the website of the first email account.  If I typed a DIFFERENT user name and password at that point, I would get the website of the other email account.

How can I get to the website of my second email account?  I want to add a folder to the list of folders on that account.  Also, I am concerned that the computer went directly to the website of my account without first requiring me to enter a password.

The two web sites are the same system. Going to hotmail.com just redirects to outlook.live.com. If you did not log out of account #1 before trying to get into account #2 in the same web browser, the system recognized you and automatically returned you to account #1.

      So your choices are:

      • Remember to log out of account #1 before you try to use account #2, and vice versa.
      • Start an InPrivate window in Edge and use that to log in to the other account.
        • Note that InPrivate doesn’t save any browsing data, so you will not remain logged in to the account you access this way. You’ll have to enter the username and password every time.
      • Set up a dedicated email client designed to manage multiple accounts.

It’s also possible to “combine” accounts using fetching or forwarding and from addresses:

How to Combine All Your Email Addresses into One Outlook.com Inbox

Please read the statement of the problem again.  I have two separate email accounts.  The solution can’t be to log out of account #1 before going to account #2, because I never have the opportunity to log in to either account — account #1 pops open without asking for a password when I type on Edge “outlook.com”.  I used to get the website of account #2 on Windows 7 by typing “hotmail.com”.  Now, when I type that, I get the website of  Account #1 again.  I have completely lost my access to the website of account #2, so I can’t make any adjustments to it, such as adding a new folder.  Apparently, Microsoft merged the two extensions, .outlook and .hotmail without warning me about my situation.

Note that I don’t want to combine the two accounts, because that would mix up my wife’s inbox email with my inbox email, which is the last thing I want.  I want to keep them separate.  It would be OK to have one account with separate inboxes, drafts, junks, etc., for me and my wife.

I am not a computer whiz, so is there a relatively simple way to do this?  I can follow step-by-step instructions, but a suggestion like “use procedure 5B” leaves me stranded.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a very simple way to do this, but you aren’t following the step-by-step instructions you were given by @SB9K.

Your login and password is being saved in Edge for account #1. But when you get there you can click your user icon at top right, followed by Sign out just below that. Then you will be able to Sign in with the email address and password for account #2.

There are not separate websites, just outlook.live.com as @SB9K explained, and there are no extensions .outlook or .hotmail which have been merged by Microsoft without telling you.

But there is now only one website for outlook.com and hotmail.com email addresses, so you need to sign out of one account before signing in with the second.

Or try @SB9K‘s second option and use an Edge InPrivate window (Ctrl+Shift+N or via … menu) to access outlook.com so that you choose which email address and password to enter every time, and open another InPrivate window to login to the other account.

      B’s directions above will work.

or an alternative is to use a different browser for the second account. Then you can be logged in to both accounts at the same time, on two different browsers.

You will need to download Google Chrome or Firefox, then on that browser go to outlook.com (yes I know it is not what you expect but it will work) and log in to your 2nd account, the hotmail account. (No need to close the first browser)

Another alternative is to use the Mail App that is built in to Windows 10. There may be an icon for it at the bottom of your screen. You will have set up the two accounts in it.
