Can’t switch from Text to Visual

I often enter in the Text window and then switch to the Visual window to see how it appears.
Recently I’ve notice that I can no longer switch from the Text window to the Visual window once I have entered text into the Text window.
If I post and then try to Edit, it will allow only the Text window to edit.
It appears that once you enter text into the Text window you can never go to the Visual window on that posting.
I don’t know if this is by design of an update or a glitch, but it causes a hassle when switching to the Visual window to get to editing controls there such as Preformatted. I get around this by manually coding in the Text window, but not all users may know how to do that.

I noticed this same thing recently. No suggestions, just reporting.

Being able to switch back & forth between Text & Visual after entering text in the Text mode first works fine during initial replies.

However, if you edit your reply and switch to Text mode, it won’t allow you to switch back to Visual mode and stays stuck in Text mode unless you logout and log back in!

So it appears to be a “bug” somewhere in the edit reply code.

BTW, I tested it in Edge, Chrome, Opera and Seamonkey (a FireFox derivative) and it happens in all 4 browsers so it’s not a browser related issue.

Test sentence input: Elementary text input for a test post, but lets see if things can be changed between input modes of text and visual. Well, they appear to be working just fine.

While typing the above test sentence and this part of this post, I was able to freely switch between text and visual modes from text to visual and from visual back to text.

However, I suppose there might be a difference for those who are logged in users, as this is being conducted as an anon user, not logged in.

Drcard:)) or @TechTango, perhaps you can try logging out and then see if switching between the text and visual tabs works? Just a suggestion that might help isolate a cause of the behavior.

I have tested and discovered it has to to with a Quote in the Text window.

Test:
Select the Visual Window
Highlight a poster’s comment and select Quote which will add the quote to the Visual window.
Select the Text window which show the quote with the BBCodes of the quote marker in the Text field. Click the Visual tab and it will not go back to the Visual.
Delete the BBCodes for the quote in the brackets (including the brackets) at the beginning and end of the quote. Click the Visual tab and it will return to the Visual window.

Conclusion: The BBCodes for a Quote keep the view from going from Text to Visual.

I tested some other BBCodes and have not found other codes that do this.
