I am running Macrium Reflect 7.3.5854 on Windows 7 Profession x64. I keep getting prompted that Macrium Reflect 7.3.5925 is now available.

But when I try to install the patch, I get the following error message:

    Patch Engine Error (14)

    Failed to extract primer file:
    map.exe
Error extracting file index 33: Access to
    C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Local\Temp\_ir_vp2_temp_0\map.exe
    was denied. (5)

Patch upgrades have been a problem for a while. My workaround has been to download the install agent (ReflectDLHF.exe) from http://macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx and then download the complete package. But this time if I do that, I am prompted to download the installer for old version (v7.3.5854_reflect_setup_free_x64.exe) again. I figured Macrium would update their agent to download the most recent full installer, but four days have gone by and it’s still not fixed.

How can I get my Macrium Reflect installation upgraded  to 7.3.5925?

    Thanks!

You might want to also ask in the Macrium forum.

I currently don’t have a Macrium forum account, but if I can’t resolve my issue here, I will sign up for one and repost my question over there.

The file ReflectDLHF.exe is the installer for Macrium v8, just introduced.  I think it is specific for v8; for v7, I use a file entitled reflectdlfull (v7).exe.  The “(v7)” is my own addition, to distinguish it from the v5 installer, which had the same name, but different function.

The advice to go to the Macrium v7 Forum is good.  People there will help you.  I can also recommend taking the upgrade to v8, whose UI has some useful improvements.  Macrium Reflect v8 is now at 8.0.5928.  My impression is that v8 may be a bit quicker, too.

I have the (Home) Free version. I don’t routinely check for updates, but after reading the above posts I checked at Macrium.
After poking around a bit without success, I discovered … V8 Free isn’t available yet. See the thread at
      https://forum.macrium.com/47612/V8-Free-tries-to-revert-back-to-V7-when-doing-latest-V8-upgrade

      The last/latest update of V7 is v7.3.5925.

I tried to sign up at the Macrium Forum and was told, “The license you have provided does not qualify for forum membership.”  It looks like I have to rely on the experts here at AskWoody.

I just updated on my W10 box and it went without a hitch.

The error you get seems to be a permission thing. Follow these steps to see if you can spot the issue.

      1. Start the update but don’t install. Leave the splash screen showing.
      2. Navigate to C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Local\Temp and search for map.exe
      3. Copy all the files from the folder containing map.exe to a new temporary folder, e.g. C:\temp
      4. Cancel the installation.
      5. Run the setup from the new temp folder. If you aren’t sure what files to run, post a screen shot of the files in the new temp folder.

To take a screenshot using the Windows Snipping Tool, save as png, attach here.

      cheers, Paul

p.s. as there doesn’t seem to be any pressing issues in the update you could ignore it for now if you can’t resolve the issue.

What actually happens is the download puts a reflectPatch.exe file in my C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Local\Temp folder.  Apparently, if you successfully run reflectPatch.exe, it creates C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Local\Temp\_ir_vp2_temp_0\map.exe.  I tried running reflectPatch.exe as administrator from its default location.  I tried copying it to C:\Temp running it from there – both normally and as administrator.   The install failed every time.

Do you have UAC turned off? Try turning it on.

I have UAC at the default setting: “Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer”

Do you have an AV that has additional “protection”? Maybe it’s blocking the update.

I posted your Error string in the V7 Forum and have one Reply as follows (Holiday in U.S.):

(Edit: He suggests (making a Backup First &) — installing the Latest Ver Over current – BUT you still see old Ver Installer ) …. If that doesn’t work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Free version of Reflect. Sometimes, I can’t get the patch updates to work, and this requires either — running the full installer over my current installation — or — uninstalling and reinstalling Reflect –. Typically, unless the user chooses otherwise, uninstall will preserve the user’s backup definition XML jobs, settings, and schedules. = Why a backup is crucial…

I’ll update only with something meaningful…

I’m using Avast! Free Anti-virus.  I tried doing the install with all shields disabled and it didn’t make any difference.

I’m trying to do a full install of the latest version.  But the full installer I’m downloading is for the older version I already have installed.

I think the problem is at Macrium’s end.  I’m just going to wait and hope it they fix it.
