I have Windows 7 Professional 64bit.  I have been having trouble with many updates. I tried

Following the trail of issues has led me to “Event Logs and it said both KB4499175 and KB4499178 installed okay” They don’t show in Windows Update Installed. CBS.LOG doesn’t have them. What is there ” Info CBS Failed to internally open package. [HRESULT = 0x800f0805 – CBS_E_INVALID_PACKAGE]”
This is why it looks to me as if the problem isn’t with these KB files, but with CBS.

Is there a way to turn off CBS and try them again?

I do try to download from ‘Windows Update Catalog’ and run that copy. Both issues I referenced  were installed that way.

      ? says:

oh, ok. maybe try admincmd> DISM /online /Get-packages

      from:

      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/take-inventory-of-an-image-or-component-using-dism

if they are showing in-place then i dunno? one of the heavy hitters here may come aboard to help…

You could try from a Admin CMD Prompt WMIC QFE then check the list presented.

Thank you, BobbyB. i’m hoping that ChuckR already has them installed. thanks for the >wmic qfe | find “fill in the digits” (using quotes).  much easier than >dism /online /get-packages | findstr KBblahblah

Thanks WMIC QFE is a nice command which seems to list all installed updates in sequence.

The previous 2 were not in the list. Why Event Log says installed and the error in CBS.LOG is still a mystery.

Thanks  I will keep trying .

How big is your Windows\Logs\CBS folder? Does this folder contain a lot of really large .CAB files?
