I’m about to launch CCCleaner. Anyone out there used it? Comments?

Under Win98 I used ToniArts cleaner, but after running it a couple of times under XP I noticed that Office required a partial re-install.

And yes, I do a backup first thing each morning; thanks for thinking of me anyway.

I’ve used it without a problem. BUT NOTE that as with any system tuning/cleaning/repair tool YOU should review any changes first and had better have a fair idea of what is going to happen. And be prepared to restore your system.

Joe, thanks for the feedback. I’ve trashed my system before, which is why everything that gets created or changed gets copied across each morning. Worst case for me, really, is reformat C:, reinstall Win/OfficeXP and drag the C:Greaves folder from the backup. Later on I can delete spurious copies of files.

I’ve run CCCcleaner, un-checking a few obvious things, and will see what happens next. Cookies aren’t a big hassle for me – there is wopr.com and my webmail account; mostly the rest are newspapers, which seem to have learned how to Ctrl-c/Ctrl-V from CNN anyway.

If you are referring to “CCleaner” (CrapCleaner”, yes I have been using it quite a bit on several PC’s running various O/S’s and configurations. Never had a problem with any of them. Of course, there are several different things you can run in that program. Running the basic cleaning utility is the only one I run after unchecking a couple of items in the list which I don’t want to be scanned. The newest version’s “history” says it has some improvements in regard to MS Office. If you don’t have this new version 1.19.108, I would recommend you grab it. wink

Already I’m wondering how to configure the thing for a command-line (unattended) run. I note that it can be hooked into the Recycle Bin, so maybe that would do the trick, after a few days manual running, of course!
