• Change a password in Eudora

I have been using Eudora forever, now V 7.1, all was well until I entered a wrong password for a new account and “Remember Password” was ticked. Now I cannot find any way to correct it. One other thing that some of you may know, how do I change the Dominant Personality?

    Thanks,

    David

It’s some time since I did this, and it was on version 6.2, so some details may not be correct.

I think that changing some account properties will cause Eudora to ask for the password again. Then change the properties back so they are correct, and it should ask once again. Alternatively you can edit the eudora.ini file and remove the line SavePasswordText for the persona in question. It should then ask for a password next time you send or receive from that account.

From memory I think I just changed all the properties for the dominant persona to change it to another account. It should also be possible by editing the eudora.ini file.

I’m using Eudora 7.1. and recently changed the log in password to my isp so Eudora could not send or receive mail until I selected “special” from the top menu bar and then “forget password(s) from the drop down menu. Then, when I selected Check mail, I was prompted for the new password and was able to retrieve and send mail. Hope this helps. 🙂

I am trying to discover the “special option” accessible from the “top bar” In Eudora 7.  I don’t find it.  Can any body instruct me how to “forget” a password that my web mail POP server forced me to change so that I can enter to my personality the new password I stored for my web mail account?

Eudora 7.1: Special-Forget passwords-select the personality , next time it connects you geta popup asking for correct password.

Changing Dominant Personality: not possible , but you an edit/change its properties to show all new values.

WOW…..THANK YOU FOR HAVING THIS INFORMATION POSTED ON THE INTERNET!

You folks saved me.  Have used Eudora for over 20 years and still have it on one of our computers.  I had to change the password for our ISP and I had no idea Eudora was using this password….( I know……duh)….but could not for the life of me figure out how to fix this until I found this exchange.  Thank you WSkrishnamurphy.  I spent hours on this project over a month and never saw the special option and forget passwords.  Solved my problem.  So…for those of you still using Eudora if you have change your password to access your e-mail from Eudora remember to use the special tab at the top of the window, pull down to forget password, then enter new password when you ask for e-mail and all is well with the world again.  Thank you for having this posted!!!!  John

Similar to the previous poster, I have Eudora E-mail records going back to 2004, and I was never forced to change my password by my ISP until very recently.  Thank you for having Password Change information posted here!

Me too!!!! I could not change the password in Eudora. The “special” saved me. It was a real Achilles Heel to be stuck with old password for so long. THANK YOU

Have been using Eudora for  30 plus years. Recently had to renew a new version of Eudora 7.1

because of a hardrive failure. Forgot the PW but cannot change because in Special of Eudora,

the “forget password is greyed out & have not found a way as yet to remedy that??

I’m in the same boat. Changed my Charter password for security’s sake, failed to turn off popups before doing Special > Forget Passwords — my dumb (very). Tried closing and reopening Eudora to get the password reset popup, even rebooting the computer — no use. Help! Thank you!

Have you tried editing the eudora.ini file and removing the SavePasswordText entry?

The ini file should be in %appdata%\Qualcomm\Eudora

          cheers, Paul

Thanks so much for that — making a permanent note of it. Victory is achieved — I have several units of the exact same computer, and after rotating the SSD to the next one today the right prompt box popped up and the password worked.

I guess this is something anybody with access to more than one puter can try for this problem. I’d always heard you shouldn’t try popping your drive into a different model than your own, but on finally taking a clone of my SSD to a used computer store I was pleasantly shocked that it worked in the different ones I tried.

The dealer had warned that critical driver adjustments etc. would have to made, but on installing my drive in any of the various puters he indicated and booting up a little box appeared showing a short list of files that were automatically being adapted.
