    Hello,

I have renamed my columns by using the caption property in the table design view. I now would like to use this table as the source for a sub form and see the columns named as I set in the caption. This works when the form is displayed as a single form or continuous form. But if I use the display form in spreadsheet view option it reverts back to the column names and ignores the captions.

What I would like to know is if this is supposed to happen and if there is a way around this, because I would like to keep my column names in the table as they are and use the captions I defined on the form in spreadsheet view.

If anybody has got any ideas I would be very grateful.

      Harry,
Yes, this is pretty annoying, isn’t it?
You will have to open the subform in design view and change the names of the controls.
Right click on a control and choose properties. Change the value of the property called Name to what you have typed in the Caption of the corresponding field in your table when you defined it.

Captions are for display only, they are NOT the names of the columns/fields within the table. Be very careful of changing the actual field names for two reasons: 1) Access really hates those neat spaces and odd characters you may use in a caption and 2) you already have forms built that reference the original field name. Regarding reason 2, changing the field names at the table level will immediately break your queries and forms based on that table unless (or maybe in spite of) you have Name AutoCorrect enabled. If you *do* have it enabled, however, then you have a different set of nasty problems to handle since it’s been implicated in a whole array of weird behaviors and problems in Access 2000.
