I do a lot of inserting images into message in Thunderbird … does anyone know how to change the format image dialog appearance TAB defaults for things like “spacing” and “align text to image” … the default values are blank and I’d like to change that … here is the dialog box I’m talking about …

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 9, 2010 at 2:14 pm #1243741Hi Neal, in my own personal opinion, users who swear by Thunderbird have never used/tried Windows Live Mail. I tried TBird and would rather have toothache. I have all my contacts in Hotmail.com but do not use it, account is removed after installation, then my Gmail & AOL is added. If your current contacts can be saved as .csv files, I recommend you try it. Always available if more info is needed.

My biggest problem in switching E-Mail clients would be migrating my saved message folders, not the address book. I’m a pack rat and I admit it but I don’t want to lose my message histories and migrating these folders is always a hassle. I may give Windows Live Mail a try some time just to say I’ve done it but I don’t see me switching any time soon. In a nutshell, that’s why I haven’t already gone to G-Mail which I also like.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 7, 2010 at 10:01 am #1248358Probably the easiest way to retain specialty image settings is to create a template and save it – then use it each time you want to send pictures.
I’ve been using Stationery (plug-in) for some time with excellent results. It’s pretty easy to handle and lets you use as many templates as you wish (I use 4 of them) when writing, replying and forwarding.

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 23, 2010 at 11:03 am #1246423That’s a good idea for some of my usual correspondence though I often include varying numbers of images and it would be difficult to predict. I guess I could have placeholders for several and then easily delete the ones I’m not going to use … not a bad idea …
Another approach I’ve been using is to use Snag-It to capture images I may wish to send in an E-Mail and then quickly drawing the padding parameters and so on in Snag It so I don’t have to do it in Thunderbird … I still have to select the paragraph orientation (text to the right or left etc.) in doing that so it’s not really saving me much time but this does work nicely when I’m looking to send something I find in an internet article and I don’t really wish to save it to disk and then re-insert it in an E-Mail …
It does seem as though there ought to be a configuration setting for these parameters though … I’ll keep looking.

One down side for me is that Thunderbird stopped letting me insert SnagIt captures as inline graphics (.png format) … I can still save the capture as a .jpg and insert it but I can no longer go directly from SnagIt to Thunderbird using the clipboard. What’s up with that? I can attach the .png and that works but it won’t properly display if I insert it instead … before Stationery, it worked well …
