When putting in a certain date range like in the past this user’s chart changes from a Stack column chart to a line chart and the user doesn’t want this to change.
She has other documents that she does the exact same way and she doesn’t have this problem.

Anyone know if Excel stores chart info in a separate template or other file that might be corrupt?

Client recreated this file and chart a while ago when this happened and would like to avoid this and discover what might be happening.

    Thanks,

    Jester

Let her try Jan Karel Pieterse’s Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in XL.

Thanks. I have been using the Word article and totally neglected to check for this.

What I have learned is the file with the chart was in use for about 6 months after being recreated for the same issue. Anyone who opens this file and edits the chart encounters the same issue: the Stack column chart switches to a line chart. Whatever causes this behavior, even if it was introduced by one user’s Excel, is stored with the file or wherever the chart info is stored.

This is the only file exhibiting the behavior and the original file was in use for 2 years prior to this behavior showing up at the beginning of the year. At that time the file was recreated and now has gone 6 months until acting up again.

I have suggested that prior to recreating the file, anyone accessing it run the Excel /o startup command but I’d rather have the department limit their once a month usage of the file to one machine and see if they can pinpoint how this scenario is being introduced to the file.

If you like, you could attach a stripped down version of the file that shows the problem along with the steps to repro it, that way we can try to troubleshoot.
