after EOL what is less secure, the chromebook laptop, or the chrome software version?

if it is the software, then why not switch to another browser, lot of them on the play store!

    thanks all

I don’t know much about Chromebooks, but as I understand, the Chrome browser in ChromeOS is a desktop version, which matches the laptop form factor of a Chromebook.

In addition, I don’t think that all Chromebooks are able to use Android apps.

If the Chromebook supports Android apps, then yes, of course, use an Android browser that is still being updated.

Another option is Guest mode. Even if the system gets hacked in Guest mode, the hack can not survive. Exiting Guest mode erases everything. Android apps are not allowed in Guest Mode, neither are browser extensions. Just *how* secure this is, is an interesting question. While the Chrome browser used in Guest Mode will have known bugs after the Chromebook is EOL, how many of those bugs are exploitable on ChromeOS is another issue.

Another consideration (with some research involved) is to use a Linux Distro instead of the EoS Chrome OS. Most Linux distro developers cater for older chromebooks.

      thanks.

looks like little is known about just exactly where in the chromebook the lack of security lies.

ChromeOS is an online OS so you are running always the latest secure version providing your device is still supported. There are no security updates to the device.

The question was about an End of Lif chromebook.

And, chromebook users are not always using the latest OS version, as they have to reboot to install OS updates. If the thing is just put to sleep, it can go a very long time without a reboot.

And ChromeOS is no more an “online OS” than any other current OS.
