Have friends whose U-verse equipment got replaced, and they asked me to see if I could get the Chromecast they have on one of their TV’s working again (it was looking for the old U-verse Residential Gateway). I downloaded and ran the Installer program for Chromecast on their Win10 laptop. It found the Chromecast OK and also the RG name and the wireless password. But when I told the installer to send that info to the Chromecast, the laptop’s wireless connection immediately broke and an error appeared that the info could not be saved to the Chromecast. I had to go through a Connect procedure to get the laptop’s wireless connection restored. This happened every time I tried the Chromecast intall.
I brought the Chromecast home and tried the install on MY U-verse network, using my Win10 desktop which has a wireless connection to the network. The install went fine: no interruption of the laptop’s connection, and the Chromecast is working like a champ. I’m planning on printing out the configuration info from my RG and then sometime this weekend going back to their house and see if I can spot any differences in their configuration, but I’m wondering if this kind of problem is familiar to anyone here.
