I have learned over the years that the delete but has cost me many days of reinstalling. But after using Cleanup Assistant & reading Fred’s most recent letter on cleanup I have to ask if I can delete these 18,000 folders or should I go through each one & determine if it might be there for some reason (unknown to me).

Any one else been through this? Any suggestions?

    Regards

    Ed

18,000 empty folders seems a major achievement! Can you show and tell some of the names, please?

        Morning

The folders are in Documents & Settings Users etc. Half of the volume is in application data. Some of the names range from my Lexmark printer to my pdf software that was just recently used. Further investigation seems to indicate that there are at least 10 references to my printer. Looks almost as if the temp files are not being cleaned up after they have been used. They are all zero data.

I’m just concerned that if I delete them havoc will follow. To go through each folder which has zero in it won’t tell me anything.
If I did delete them all, I wonder how long it would take to re3fill them to the same point.

Any further info needed just let me know.

        Regards

Microsoft Windows can create Garbage almost as fast as a large metropolitan area.
And, most of the time, the garbage will remain on your HD till you eliminate it, with some
cleanup program like Window’s own “Disk Cleanup”, which is minimal at best, unless you run it
      in “Extended Mode”.
That’s not the “delete all to end all” program but it’s a dang good place to start.
I install it for every one of my customers as a desktop shortcut and I encourage them to
make it a part of a weekly (not Weakly) HD maintenance routine.

Copy and paste the following Blue Line into a desktop shortcut, for an Extended Disk Cleanup.

      %SystemRoot%System32Cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & Cleanmgr /sagerun:65535

The first time you run the Extended Disk Cleanup, you will need to put a check mark in the little box next to each type of garbage that you want the program to remove.
I suggest that you NOT check ‘Office Setup Files” , “Setup Logs” or “Compress Old Files“.
Just leave those UN-Checked. Everything else gets a check mark.

Some ‘cleanup’ programs will remove all Zero size folders and files.
Programs that need those files, will just re-create them, when needed.

      Good Luck,
      😎
