I have a user who has been pasting a portion of a spreadsheet into Access frequently and all of a sudden last week, the paste stopped working. It is a warrant Excel worksheet that is pasted into an Access database. The error message that comes back is “The data on the Clipboard is damaged, so Siskiyou County Warrant Reconciliation can’t paste it.” They even took an old spreadsheet that worked a couple of weeks ago and tried to paste and the error message is the same. It appears that something has happened to MS Clipboard. Has anyone had any experience with this? We desperately need help as this is a major tool used by our Auditor’s Office and Treasurer’s Office. Has Microsoft made changes that broke the clipboard? Appreciate your time.

AskWoody LoungerDecember 22, 2008 at 10:57 am #1138950This appears to be a problem caused by a recent update to Excel 2007: KB958437. Microsoft knows about the problem and is working on a fix.
In the meantime, your user could try one of the following workarounds:
– Copy and paste from Excel into Word, then copy and paste from Word into Access.
– Copy from Excel, then quit Excel if it asks whether to leave the data on the clipboard, tell it to do so. Pasting into Access should work then.
– Import the data from Excel into an Access table, then copy from the imported table into the destination table.
If that is not feasible, the user could uninstall KB958437. -

AskWoody LoungerDecember 23, 2008 at 5:42 am #1139141Thanks a lot Hans, by the time you’d sent your reply I’d already read about the issue by Googling it. Your second solution is the best because the to Word option gives some error messages when you paste into Access, which has the potential to freak some of my users out. The quiting EWxcel options works great. Have shared your solution with the rest of our IS staff and end users who use Excel and Access. Appreciate your prompt response.
