‘Close’ has disappeared from menu (Word 2000)

One of my fellow word processors has lost the “Close” option in her File menu. The File menu is fully displayed, i.e., not the initial short display. She said it’s been like this for about a month.

I watched over her shoulder as she looked around a little to see if there were a way to add “Close” back to the list, but the only thing she found had “Close” as a checkmarked grayed-out item. That makes us think that Word thinks Close is still on her File menu.

Of course she can use Ctrl-F4, but she she’s used to using the mouse for this.

Any thoughts?

Hi Russ,

Can you get it back as follows? Right-click on a toolbar and choose “Customize…”. In the “Customize” window, select the “Commands” tab. In the “Categories” list select “File”. In the “Commands” list find the “Close” icon and drag it using the left mouse button over the “File” menu option. When the “File” menu opens up place the “Close” icon where you want it and release the mouse button.

If you have no other modifications intentionally made to the menu bar, you can go to Tools/Customize/Toolbars tab/Menu Bar & click reset.

Hi Russ: You’re welcome. If that doesn’t work, she can always rename her normal.dot & let Word build a new one. If that doesn’t work, she should follow the steps in post 197827.

It should, unless the admininstrators push a new normal template on you every time you logon (my work used to until I complained enough ).
