I have just installed the Office 2000 Developer Edition and am trying to open the CodeLib.mdb file. It is asking me for a password. I can not find any mention of that in the documentation I am reading from the MSDN library. Can anyone help me?

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 7, 2001 at 6:01 am #509487Actually, the code librarian is an add-in, although it can be launched directly as described. If you open Access and go into the VBE, code librarian should be available through the add-in manager. Once you’ve established the add-in (I load it at startup), you can create your own new code librarian files from the code librarian toolbar and put anything you want into them. I name mine things like CFCodeLib.mdb–original, huh? All you have to do to switch between the libraries is use the open icon on the toolbar and point to the particular code librarian mdb. I even copy mine to a zip disk and use that to keep my personal code librarian files synced between my office machine and my laptop. Unfortunately, you can’t replicate the darn things because they’re password protected.
As an aside, the Code Librarian file CodeLib.mdb contains the same sample code you find in the help files.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 7, 2001 at 5:13 pm #509557All the Microsoft add-ins and wizards are protected, probably to keep you from breaking them. The Access Developer’s Handbook usually includes unlocked versions of the wizards for learning purposes, but I haven’t checked to see if there’s an unlocked code librarian. If there were, I would like to change some behavior and add some features to my own version.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 8, 2001 at 12:50 pm #509681I want to thank everyone who responded. I have now located the Code Librarian. I work for a school system and we purchase software licenses but the only documentation we get is what comes on-line with the software. That is where I was reading about the code librarian. It was very misleading though because it says “When you first start Code Librarian, you’ll need to open the Codelib.mdb file to view all of the code snippets included with Office 2000 Developer”
I need to purchase a book to help me make the best use of the developer edition. Does anyone have a recommendation to make of a good resource book for this purpose?

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 8, 2001 at 1:40 pm #509695Actually, on-line is pretty much all you get with Office Developer 2000. The documentation for the developer’s tools is mostly in the MSDN library that comes with it. I think the code librarian is poorly documented because it’s supposed to be self-evident (yeah, right).
I rely primarily on the Access 2000 Developer’s Handbook, all 2 volumes and 3000 pages of it.
