This is 1st post so hope I’m using the correct process for posting to this forum.

I have been trying to figure out why I can’t get the background on a slide in PowerPoint (PPT) to be the exact same color as that of a jpeg created in PhotoShop on a Mac.

Our graphic artist created the slide on her Mac then sent it to me. I am creating a presentation and want the background color of the blank slide I created in PPT using Office 2000 to match the graphic so that there is a perfect blend. In other words, I don’t want to see where the graphic begins or ends; it should just blend in with the background.

This actually works and I send the graphic from one machine to another, but only works if PPT 97 is used. When the graphic is brought in to PPT 2000, the color of the object is darker than the background and the white letters look beige with a yellow tint.

Any ideas anyone?

The RGB on the Mac is R=31, G=3, and B=254. When I bring it in on the PC, I set the RBG the same

Are there multiple slides in the presentation?
Silly question – there probably are. I was just thinking about setting the jpg as the background of the slide.

Yes. There are other slides. This slide will be the 1st of the presentation. However, sometimes there are other slides that we want to blend in on a blank slide. We just can’t get that consistent color background so the edges of the imported graphic and the background of the PPT slide show NO signs of being 2 objects.

Can you get your graphic artist to make another matching JPEG that you could “stretch” to cover the slide, and then layer it beneath the your featured JPEG. Perhaps not the most elegant solution, but that should work.

Explain what you mean by “stretch.” I’m not familiar with the term.

We are trying to find solution for backgrounding so that when we have other presentations we have a process that works without having to make huge adaptations every time.

I meant resize the image to fill the slide. Then send it to the back of the slide.

If I resize the image, the Word or pictures are distorted. Using the resized handles at the corner of the graphic works to keep everything in portion, but then it may not fit the size of the slide in PPT. So, somehow I need make the background the same color so it blends with the graphic or figure another way of blending the two objects. By the way, the color works fine when using PPT in Office 97; it’s just Office 2000 PPT that it giving us fits.

So, what I’m suggesting is that you get a jpeg from your designer with just the background from the original jpeg on it – no text. Layer that behind the jpeg you can’t resize and use it as the background for the slide. Of course if the background of the jpeg has text in it, this won’t work.

Once the object comes from the graphic artist with the RBG of the background she used, the path used to get the background on another machine is: Format–>Background. Click the down arrow and select More Colors. Then click the Custom Tab and type in the RBG numbers.

I’m wondering (and I don’t know enough about this myself) if has something to do with the colour calibration of the monitors.

I’m not sure either. I know we have set the monitor resolutions on the Mac and all the PCs we have played with during this adventure.

However, your previous solution may be the answer until we find out more about why it doesn’t work on the one PC with Office 2000. We are testing it now.

Where are you setting the RBG on the PC?
