I don’t understand why today’s keyboards don’t provide a key that adds [.com] or provide one or two blank keys that you can assign anything you want. There are several keys that are basically useless in to days world. Few if anybody use Ins or Scroll Lock. I want to re-assign .com to one of these keys. Or provide similar when using a browser. Any body know how?

    Thanks.

Err, maybe because only in the US is everything suffixed by .com? There are a number of other countries in the world – honest!

Anyway, once you’ve typed it once, Firefox* has it there, ready and waiting for you, once you type three letters of the URL.

WOW, for all the computer savvy that I think I have, I never thought about all the points in these replies. The Firefox thing never downed on me. I was aware of it but never paid any attention. Thanks to all who replied.

If you look at most of the NEW key boards, there are so %^^&$ many hot keys that the layout has doubled.

What would a “.com” hot key do for you?

One some of the new ones, the “Fn” keys have a toggle, which will shift from FN key to some other defined action.

This is a shortcut I like to use..

Tired of typing in www, etc. for web addresses?

With Internet Explorer just type the main domain name for any dot-com and hold down Ctrl while you hit Enter.

Firefox let’s you do the Ctrl+Enter thing too and then some. For a dot-net sites hit Shift+Enter. For dot-org use Shift+Ctrl+Enter. Alt+Enter adds “http://www” and dot-com PLUS it opens up in a new tab.

This is specifically for Vista, but may work in Win 7 as well.
