    Ok,
what is a hidden module ?
where can i get at it ?

I am trying to create an mde file from a working mdb file. there are no errors, all modules (attached to forms and freestanding) compile and execute perfectly at the moment.

First you need to unhide the module.

Use the file menu – Tools, Options, View, and then check Hidden Objects.
This will display all hidden objects.

Once you have displayed the module, you may uncheck the hidden property and reset the view to not view hidden objects or not..

thanks for the response, please see my apology below !
I was not aware that it is possible to hide modules so i have learned from this as well as the compiler function too.

When and where are you getting the message? When you run the MDE or when you try to create it? Is the error giving you any specific information about the module or just a generic message?

All the knowledgebase articles I’ve seen that address that specific problem in any of the various versions of office pinpoint PDFWriter as the culprit. Are you trying to use that, by any chance?

Charlotte, thanks for the response, please see my apology below.

this error was during the creation of the mde and was generic other than giving the form name. As i mention , i compiled the module and got no errors but was not aware that i was only compiling one procedure. hairout

Guys, i’m really sorry about this, a new day and i have tried compiling each procedure in the module attached to the form in question – it was not hidden in any way – and i have found the problem. A stray reference to a control that was deleted some time ago. A lesson learned for me though, when you click on the compile button in the toolbar it only compiles the procedure that the cursor is in, in the module window. I believed that it compiled the whole module.

once again, sorry for any inconvenience grovel

this is rather misleading of Access to declare an error in ahidden module when it was not, is this a ‘feature’ ?

Well, form modules are “hidden” in that you can’t select them from the database window. As for the button, would you believe I’ve never used it? I always compile from the menu, and I assume the button calls the “compile loaded modules” option, rather than “compile and save” or “compile all modules”.

You can compile modules from a menu option too ???!!!!

I like the subtle spin on the word ‘hidden’ too, great get out clause !

          see ya
