I just changed jobs and my new employer uses Lotus Notes 4.6.3 for email. Yuck. Is there some way I can configure Outlook to handle the LotusNotes email instead of LotusNotes? Sure would make my life easier. Thx. -Rich.

I’m not so sure. Swimming upstream against the IT department might make your life a lot more difficult.

Anyway, I’m not aware that you can use OL as a front end to Notes. If no one else has relevant information, you could try IBM/Lotus.

I know what you mean. It would make my life infinitely easier. I thought I read somewhere on ibm.com that it can be done, but it may have been with R5 instead of R4. As much as I think MS is taking over the world, and that there are a lot of quirks in their software, Outlook is so much better than Notes for email. Notes is just painful to use. I can’t even make a sort stick. I’ll sort by reverse date, and it will switch back the other way to its default. Oh well, I guess I’d better just make the best of it. -Rich.

OK….. I just thought I’d run Outlook 2000 to see if I could configure it for my personal email. It automatically detected LotusNotes mail!! I now have all my email in Outlook. They look funny in many cases cause I guess LotusNotes configures them in some funny way, but it’s all there. I did blow it up when I tried to create a subfolder, but maybe I should just do that from Notes anyway. Just thought you’d like to know. -Rich.

Could you give more detail as to what you did to get Outlook to detect Lotus Notes? Thanks.

All I did was run Outlook. I had the Outlook icon on my desktop when I got the computer, and Lotus Notes was already installed and running, so I just double-clicked the Outlook icon, and it ran the install program. At the point where you select the type of email system to use (internet vs corporate vs. whatever), it had Lotus Notes as one of the choices, so I just selected it. I didn’t do anything special to get it to work (although it doesn’t really work because of the crashes I get with the breakpoint error messages). -Rich.
