Continuous section break

On one of my computers, when I insert a Continuous section break, the text following the break gets pushed down to the beginning of the next page. The paragraphs in thsi document are not set to “keep with next.”
On another of my computers, when I insert a Continuous section break, there is no break in the text.

How can I get the former to behave like the latter?

Is it possible to attach to a post a document that exhibits the behaviour in question, with a small amount of text in it that you don’t mind us all seeing?

I coudl do that, but first, if I may add some potentially helpful information:

– In the document on the computer that’s giving me a problem, the continuuos page break only causes a next page break when it is inserted in the first page of the document. On the second page of the document, the break is continuous.

– On the other computer, a continuous page break is continuous no matter where is inserted in the document.

Let me know if that helps. Otherwise, I will post a part of the problematic document.

I think I know what is going on. and it seems to have something to do with the footnotes. If you position your cursor in the footnotes on page 1, then go to Insert – Reference – Footnote, and change it from Bottom of Page to Below text, your section break then behaves as you wanted it to. I appreciate that you want the footnotes at the bottom of the page and not below the text, but since this changes it, the problem must be something to do with the interaction of the footnotes and the section break. Similarly, if I delete the Section 1 footnotes entirely, the document behaves itself. And as soon as I try to put a new footnote in again, the problem comes back.

That observation led me to do a bit of Googling and I found this MS support article that describes the problem you have. It looks as though you may need to use endnotes instead of footnotes.

The reason I want this continuous break is becasue I want to have the style of the footnotes on p. 1 (*, etc.) to be different from those on the rest of the document (1, 2, etc.). I found I could achieve this purpose while also avoiding having a page break if I took the continuous break and moved it to right before the first footnote on page two that I want to be different from that of page one. That does not create a page break to the next page.

Not ideal, but I am glad you have found a way to work around what appears to be a limitation of Word.
