When I click on the “New Message” button in OE 5.5, the window always pops up in the “restore” size. Does anybody know how I can make the “New Message” window pop up in the “maximised” view? In fact, can you control the size of all of the windows in OE 5.5 (such as the size of the Address Book window)?

    Thanks!

      Here’s how, Joe:

I tried it myself, by resizing the message windows to strange sizes and it does work – even after restarting my machine.

      Here are the exact steps:

      1. Open Outlok Express and hold your Shift key down and click File Menu >> New >> Mail Message.
      2. Hold down the Alt key and hit the Tab key to switch back to the main Outlook Express window and then close it, leaving the New Message window still open.
      3. Back in the new window, use the window edges to resize the window as big as possible.
      4. Close the window.

I tried using the maximize button instead of manually resizing the new window but it didn’t work. You really do have to drag the window edges. You also really do have to use the File menu >> New >> Mail Message. The New Message toolbar icon won’t work.

This also works for the Address Book. Open Outlook Express, then hold down the Shift key while you click the Tools menu and choose Address Book. Then go back and close Outlook Express, resize the Address Book it to your liking, and close the Address Book.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks! It really works! I wonder how ou discovered this. It is amazing that a feature that is so functional could be hidden away like that.

If a Microsoftie is reading this, how about putting in an “Open all windows this size” button.

Thanks ruth. It was a big help. bravo

          Hi Joe.

For the life of me, I can’t remember where I picked up that little tidbit, but it was about 6 months ago. I love finding solutions to computer problems and saving them in various TIPS folders I have created. I have about a zillion of ’em, though!

          Glad it works for ya’!!
