You need to open the database that the linked tables are in.

To find out where the linked database is, Open the converted DB in A2K, select Tools | Database Utilities | Linked Table Manager. In the Linked Table Manager window you should see most of the full path to the linked DB.

I was practicing converting a 97 database to a 2000 database. When I brought it up in Access 2000, it gave me the option to convert so I did. When I open the2000 database the tables are linked and when I open up the Access 97 database, the tables are linked. If I want to make some changes to a table, how do I do this? Maybe I missed something but I thought when I converted to 2000 I wouldn’t have linked tables.

I have another question – When I split a database into a front end and a back end it was suggested to put the front end on the individual user’s PCs and the backend on a shared drive. If I have to make changes to forms or add reports, would I have to copy a new front end to each user? Can I put the front end on the share drive too?

Have you converted both the FE and BE databases from Access 97 to Access 2000?
If you have you will need to do as Bryan suggests to find where the tables are linked to.
When you convert from Access 97 to 2000 with linked you will have linked in the output (2000).

If you put the FE on the shared drive as well you will get some conflicts when exitting from forms about saving the form. This happens when someone else changes a form (eg the filter) and exits, it tries to write the form back to the DB. Then when another user exits they then will be asked to write the form back to the DB. It really is a pain in the proverbial. The best way around this is to keep the FE on the users PC.

If you had linked tables in 97, you’ll have linked tables in 2000. You may be getting confused by the Access Data Project (ADP), available in Access 2000. That is a direct window into SQL Server, so no linked tables.
