Copying and pasting multiple cells (2000)

I am trying to copy and paste multiple cells but appear to be getting an error, can you tell me the reason for the error.
As sometimes the copying and passting works , other times is does not.
see screenshot.
Any help would be appreciated.

The error message means precisely what it says. If you select multiple areas using the Ctrl key, copy to the clipboard, then select other multiple areas using the Ctrl key, you’ll get this error message. If you select multiple cells in a single area using the mouse or the Shift key, there should be no problem.

Further to Hans’ response; I am often brought up short when I lose sight of the fact that my sheet is filtered, and there are hidden, unselected cells within what appears to be a single, continuous selected block of cells.
