Hi MS Guru,

May I know the correct sequence to apply Group B March MS Patch to Win 7 with ESU subscription installed?

a) install Mar 2021 KB 5000851, reboot laptop and then install KB 5001639
or
b) install Mar 2021 KB 5000851 follow by KB 5001639 and then reboot laptop
or
c) install KB 5001639 and then reboot laptop

Please enlighten and thank you.

Install KB 5001639 (replaces KB 5000851) then KB5000800 (IE11 CU).
CORRECTION: Install KB 5000851, then KB 5001639, and finally KB5000800 (IE11 CU).
You do not have to reboot between, only after both are installed.

KB 5001639 doesn’t replace KB 5000851.  It’s a hotfix that goes on top of either the Security only or the Monthly cumulative.

It’s not clear, but the hint is in the naming of the download, it doesn’t say it’s a security update, merely an “update”.
