Correlation between user DSN versus System DSN

Does anyone know what the effective distinction between these two DSN specifications is? I created a User DSN for an Access database, and searched the registry for the DSN. I then created a System DSN and did the same thing. In looking at the registry, I can’t tell the difference. There must be some other place where this information is stored (identifying one as a User DSN and the other as a System DSN).

Here’s a couple of quotes from the ODBC help
‘User DSN Tab
Adds, deletes, or sets up data sources with user data source names (DSNs). These data sources are local to a computer and accessible only by the current user. ”

“System DSN Tab
Adds, deletes, or sets up data sources with system data source names (DSNs). These data sources are local to a computer but not user-dedicated; any user with privileges can access a system DSN. ‘

It is all prviliege and accessibility related.

Since a system DSN is available to the machine and everyone that uses it, it should be in the Local_Machine root. Where as a User DSN, which is only available to THAT user should be in the Current_User root.
