• Create a Search function

Are there any references/resources/words of advice out there for creating a site search function? The site that is planned will have static pages, downloadable documents (Word or pdf I think), an Access database of articles and a forum. It will be created using asp.

Creating a way of searching through all that looks like a very complex job to me, but search buttons are everywhere, so I assume the basic methods have already been devised.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

      Check out DTSearch

Assuming you’re running on a Windows platform, you can also use some built-in features with Indexing services. Check Microsoft’s documentation and/or website for more details on that.

Thanks Mark. I checked out the DTSearch website but, unless I misunderstood, their Web site version costs about $1000, which is out of the range of this project.

Hi Ian, check your hosting companies server, most are hosted on linux/apache. If you have a cpanel option with your hosting company then you more than likely have access to CGI scripts that will do most of the “search function” work for you. Cheers Graham.

Take a look at Atomz Express Search – I have used Atomz.com as the search solution on many sites for many years now and have always been pleased with the quality and ease of use. Express search is free for sites up to 750 pages.
