Creating a Master schedule (MSP 2000)

There are three individual projects that use the same pool of resources. What i need to do is:
1) create a master plan/schedule
2) have a common resource pool listing that is used by all schedules
3) when the lower level schedules have updates, they should roll up to the master

Do i do this using consolidation plan/schedule or a cross link one? I am relatively new to MSP but have become the local go to person.

You can create a consolidated project by either method. Both have advantages and disadvantages. I would suggest creating the projects as separate entities and then insert them into a consolidated master project. If you keep then on a network then you can use the subprojects to update the master project. Of course, you need to take into consideration where the projects will be stored on your network and who will be updating them.

Suggest that you look for other posts on this or get a good book on MS Project. (My canned answer…)
