hi i have NO idea how to create a web page, but i need a basic one for my business. i bought a domain name after reading the ‘9-in 1 iodts manual’.. a couple of years ago..have not done anything with it, b/c I dont know how!!! and today i looked for an ‘idiots’ guide for creating a web site or soemthing like that in a few book stores but no luck. Out of desperation, i contacted a few professional places and the quotes were outrageous..AUD $4300!!!!
I really have NO idea so I would appracite any guidance in this direction.
All I need is a page that has some information about me, a promo photo, and perhaps an email address that they can contact me on.
If anyone could help….PLEASE DO!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AskWoody LoungerApril 22, 2007 at 11:44 am #1061819Back when I was first starting to learn a little about HTML (and I’m STILL only an amateur!) I would find a somewhat simple web page with my browser and save as a “complete web page” to a temp folder on my hard drive. That process will usually save all the graphics used on the page as well as the HTML code you want to “study.” Be careful if you do so because of copyright – you’ll want to use what you get for study but not blatant copying – I don’t think coding and techniques are a problem, only content.
I use Firefox but I think in IE it’s File, Save As and set the Save As Type for complete web page.
Have fun with Hans’ suggested tutorial! …

AskWoody LoungerApril 22, 2007 at 11:53 am #1061821Hi There
For the complete newbie to websites by far the easiest way to get a reasonable holding page without all the code and complicated graphics stuff is to create a Word document with the pictures and layout you want, save it as a Word document and then after you are happy with it SAVE AS HTML. Thi swill create a web page and a folder with all the “stuff” you need to show the page correctly. Dump the file and the folder onto your web server and hey presto a reasonable holding page.
I have created simple websites for the cost of a couple of bottles of wine and your quote of $4300 is rather excessive and it sounds like they want to create a massive corporate affair….it sounds like you need something far simpler

AskWoody LoungerApril 22, 2007 at 6:05 pm #1061844Hi, have been doing some of this myself and in a short time have managed to get a fair understanding of HTML, and even CSS !! I am experimenting with WYSIWYG web programmes – lots of free stuff if you look – poular one being Nvu (google it ),. BUT, if you have a domain name why not transfer it to one of the many Hosting companys around and most of them now incorparate a “Web Site Builder” which is simplicity itself to use. Have a look here http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/%5B/url%5D and have a play with their Web site Builder you can get 3 pages for free if you let them host your site

AskWoody LoungerApril 22, 2007 at 9:58 pm #1061864Way back in the mid 1990’s I found this tutorial from Maricopa Community College. It is still there and still clear as a bell.

AskWoody LoungerMay 7, 2007 at 4:48 am #1063824You can also go to http://www.officelive.com[/url%5D and sign up for the FREE basic plan. There you can put together a simple but nice business page.
You MUST use IE in order to sign up. They also ask for a credit card but on the free plan they don’t charge you. I have had an account for 6 months or more and have fun playing around with it. I use it to post pics and stuff for the family to go and see. It is easy to upload files and etc.It could be a way to get you up and running whilst you learn all about making your own web pages
I am not sure if you can use the web name you already have.
