Cumulative Update for Windows Installs Twice?

Has anyone experienced a cumulative update for Windows 10 needing to install twice?

With the last 2 months of updates … I have notice that the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 (for me it’s version 1903) goes through 2 install processes before restart.

Is one of the Installs the servicing stack update?

Sometimes metadata changes, which can result in them apparently reinstalling. @abbodi86 is the go-to person for such info!

It’s not unheard of. What particular update has this happened to you with, and what were the dates in question?

I updated February’s Cumulative update (KB4532693) at the wee hours of this morning.

I saw the update install at 100% pretty quickly, then I watched it install it all over again, but at a slower pace.

Then it proceeded to complete the installation of the other updates before restarting.

Restart went well.

If you don’t mind me asking, What types of metadata changes cause Windows 10 to need to install an update after installing it 100%?

My guess on this:
You see the CU in the Update queue, but you do not see the SSU.
But the SSU is bundled with (gets installs alongside of) the CU.
The SSU may even present itself as the CU.
Hence the appearance of a double installation.
And it may even show up that way in Update History.
BUT,
Update History is not what is currently installed on your computer.
That information is in Installed Updates – and if you look there, you will see the CU and the invisible SSU  both installed.
