    Anyone:

I found this tip for changing default settings for comments on a Microsoft Web site. I can’t get it to work. What am I missing?

On the Format menu, click Styles and Formatting, which will open the Styles and Formatting task pane in the right margin.
In the task pane, under Pick formatting to apply, make sure the Comment Text entry is visible. If it is, go to step 3; if it is not, do the following:
On the Show drop-down menu, click Custom.
In the Format Settings dialog box, under Styles to be visible, click Comment Text, and then click OK.
Under Pick formatting to apply, right-click the Comment Text entry, and then click Modify.
    Select any options you want.
To see more options, click Format, and then click the attribute that you want to change.
Click OK after you’ve changed each attribute.
Repeat steps 5 and 6 for any additional attributes you want to change.

    Thanks.

    Jerry

After clicking Custom, select “All Styles” from the Category dropdown list. You should then be able to locate Comment Text in the list of Styles to be visible.

If that doesn’t help, could you be more specific about “I can’t get it to work”?

      Hi Jerry,

One possible problem with the “Comment Text” style is that you can’t change the font size used in the comment bubbles.
The font size is ignored here (but will apply in the comment pane).

        Klaus:

        Thanks.

So then there may not be a way to change the size of the text inside the balloons. I also noticed that the “comment reference marks” as Microsoft calls them are not part of Word 2002 at all. If you turn off the balloons, you can’t really match the place in the text where a comment has been inserted with the comments listed in the “List of markup” that can be printed out. Do you know of a way to fix that? I have seen that Word 2003 does keep the reference marks inside the balloons, but I don’t recall if they appear in the text the way they do in Word 97/2000. I rather doubt it. I have a friend who wants to turn off balloons to get a traditional kind of revision marking (strike-through text for deletions), but still keep comments.

        Any ideas are appreciated.
