cyclic redundancy check 23

My virus scan found a file that it was unable to read and it was marked as a “cyclic redundancy check 23”
I have done some searching and it would appear that this is caused by a physical flaw on the disk. I know the file name (it is a doc file) but I am unable to either run the file nor delete it.
Since this is on my “C’ drive I would like to block that sector. I remember many years ago (before windows) I had a program from Norton that could do that. Are there any inexpensive or free programs to do that.
My C drive works well most of the time, but once in a while it locks up and I suspect that sector as the problem
Any advise would be appreciated

Have you tried running chkdsk /R ?

I also think you should backup that disk and keep it updated.

CRC errors should never appear on modern hard disks because they automatically map bad sectors internally. If a CRC error gets through to Windows it means your disk has used all the spare sectors and is about to fail. As Rui said, backup now.

chkdsk /f /r and a backup of your disk would be sufficient.
