    Hi,

I have a data of showing the month, the name of the client, and the number of lessons given to each client. I created a Column chart showing the number of lessons for each client that was given in each month. An example sheet is attached. Note that the actual data contains other months and more client names.

    1) What I would like to do is colour the columns according to the client’s name. For example, for Alex, the colour will be red, for Craig it will be Blue, for Doug it will be Green, etc. How can I go about to do that?

    2) In the Plot Area I would like to have a line seperating the months, sort of like a divider, so that it would show up better when I present this information. How do I do that?

Any help would be appriciated. Thanks.

If you can rearrange the data into a table, it’s simple – see attached.

Thanks Rory, that’s what I wanted. I tried to recreate what you’ve done (so that I can do it myself in the future), but I was not able to get the same chart that you got. The attached file is what I got. Can you explain to me what you did different than me?

When choosing the source data for the chart in the wizard, you need to plot by columns, not by rows.

Excellent, this worked. Last question, how did you get the nice chart colours (for the columns and the legend)? The colours that I get are the standard fill colours and they are pretty plain.

I changed the colour palette in the workbook. (Jon Peltier has an add-in for this on his site here.).
