database engine (Access XP)

If this shows up twice I am sorry. But I haven’t seen it show up and my other post has.

Situation: Have an installed stand alone program created in 97 or 2000. Access XP is the only Access program on the computer.

Question: Which database engine does the stand alone program use? The one that shipped with it or XP?
If it is the one that shipped with it is there any way having both on the computer could cause the stand alone to lock up the computer so that the only option left was the on-off button, the three finger salute did not work?

The program that is stand alone that you are talking about is an Access program…not VB or C++ or something?

If you’re opening it from a program menu shortcut created by the installer, then it uses the runtime that was installed with it. If you don’t use such a shortcut, it will probably attempt to use the full version of Access, assuming it actually is an Access app. “Access-based” is a little vague, since VB also uses Access as its database engine. If the application file is an mde, mda, or mdb, then it’s Access. If you launch it from an exe file, it’s not.
