Hi guys…. I’m having trouble accessing a database on a machine on my peer to peer network. Access says I have to move it to my local machine in order to access it. It didn’t use to be this way…. I have searched the forum, but I didn’t find anything I understood.

So, I have a database that lives on a fileserver, and I need to access it from any peer to peer machine on the network. Can someone tell me how to overcome this new ‘security’ issue in terms I can understand?

My Access 97 databases are working fine in this configuration.

    Thank in advance!

Try splitting the database into a shared backend and individual frontends. See Why Split a Database? by WendellB.

Hey Hans… Thanks for the info. I have actually tried that, and I still get the security error message. Using the database utility, it actually starts a _be.mdb file, but then the security error comes up again. The back end file is about 66 kb, and had no info in it. Of course, I could not access it because Access thinks it’s in an ‘Untrusted’ zone.

So, I’m still confused as to why Access thinks the peer to peer computer is not secure, or in an ‘Untrusted’ zone.

        Thanks again Hans!

Try adding the computer (computername) containing the backend database to your Trusted Sites in the Security tab of Tools | Internet Options in Internet Explorer.

BAM! That was it! That’s what’s holding me up w/ Access 2002, not only here, but in some other places as well. I’m sure I am not the only amateur with this issue.

            Love this forum!

            Thanks Hans!
            Have a great week!
