I’m using Win 98se on a laptop. This is a new install (well, IT ghosted our standard corporate image on it). I set up a default printer, but it won’t stick. Whenever I try to print in any application, the printer name is blank and I have to select it. I can’t just click the print button in Word. I’ve deleted the printer, and re-installed, and re-selected as default, but it still won’t stick. I’ve looked on MS Support and the KB, but didn’t see anything. Anybody have this problem before and know how to fix it? Thx. -Rich.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerOctober 26, 2001 at 7:42 pm #548840I’m on a network. It hasn’t been sticking even when connected. Network is domain type. Should have roving profiles, but IP address might change. I think it was sticking yesterday, but not today. I install by either use the install printer wizard and going out to the print server on the network, or else opening network neighborhood and dragging the printer from the server to the Printers dialog (which then pops up a menu with Install as an option). Thx. -Rich.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 29, 2001 at 1:55 pm #549104Yes, printer is on network. As far as I know, profile is being saved. But, for some reason, it is now sticking. The only thing I did differently was rename it when I installed it. It was defaulting to HP LaserJet 5N for the name, so I added P517 to the beginning and now it sticks. Strange. Thanks for your help anyway! -Rich.
