I couldn’t figure out a place to put this, so came here. I recently installed a screen capture / picture editing app Snip & Sketch from MS. When I installed it, it created a default save folder called “Pictures” on one of my hard drives where it stores my screen captures for editing. Prior to the installation, I was frequently saving emailed picture attachments to the same hard drive but in different paths/folders. When saving multiple pictures from Outlook one at a time, the last used folder was automatically selected which was convenient since there were usually multiple pictures that belonged in the same folder together. After installing Snip & Sketch, the save function from Outlook (right click, “Save Image As”) always defaults to the Pictures folder and I have to path back to the last used folder, or another nearby folder, to save. I want to remove the Outlook Save Image As default from “Pictures” back to default being last used folder. How do I do this?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerMarch 1, 2019 at 12:12 pm #335685That is a method for making a default folder and I want the behavior to return to original which is open in last used folder. It would be good if there was an entry that got added when the Snip & Sketch program was installed. I could remove that and return everything back to original. There is not one for Outlook. I looked for the Snip & Sketch program in the registry and cannot find it. Thanks for the input!

Do you use a shortcut to open Snip & Sketch?
“I’ve tried a reset and its still the same… however…
A discovery. I open Snip and Sketch via a shortcut using filepath explorer.exe ms-screenclip: which I got from here:
Snip and Sketch shortcuts. Solved – Windows 10 Forums
It appears it is this that is now causing the issue with the latest version. If I open the app via the default tile/start menu button then it does appear to remember the last saved location. Use the shortcut (which I like because it takes you straight to the task needed) and it doesn’t.”

AskWoody LoungerMarch 1, 2019 at 12:43 pm #335725Well, I did a registry search for “snip” and found the registry entry for AppSnipandSketchFileSaveSettings. It has a LastLocation value that was populated with the default folder. I removed the values and it now appears to populate with the last saved location. However, this did not affect or change the behavior when saving picture attachments in Outlook. Still lookin’…

Er…yes. I open it from the task bar where it is pinned. I tested the behavior described by opening S&S from the start menu. The save location defaulted to the folder I removed above. However, after that it defaulted to the last saved location. So launching from the start menu or task bar doesn’t change behavior. It now saves to last save location.
Now to try and figure why Outlook doesn’t save to last location…
