• Default Tab Stop Position (2007)

The default tab stop position on my PC is 1.27cm. Is there a way to adjust this to 1cm exactly. I notice this is not linked to the Normal.dot because it sets back to 1.27cm even after I adjust it in the Normal.dot and save it.

Any ideas. I frequently use the default tab stops and it would be great to have it at 1cm intervals.

In the Page Layout tab of the Ribbon, click the little arrow to the right of Paragraph to open the Paragraph dialog.
      Click Tabs.
Enter the desired value in the Default tab stops box.
      Click OK.

Sorry Hans, you misunderstood. My intentions are to adjust the tab stop to 1cm and save it as a default. At the moment, I go to the TAB dialog and set it to 1cm, but on a new document it is back to 1.27cm. I would like the default to stay 1cm. I cannot seem to find an option to keep it like this.

        Hope this is clearer.

          Try this:
          – Open Normal.dotm in Word.
          – Set the default tab stop.
          – Save and close Normal.dotm.

The default template was named Normal.dot in all versions of Word up to and including Word 2003. With the new file types in Word 2007, the extension for the default template has changed to .dotm.
