What is the easiest way to create a default table that is not the same as that produced by Word?

The easiest way is probably to format a table the way you want and then to save it as autotext, this is very easy to insert, but it will have a fixed number of rows and columns.

That’s a good and feasible idea.

I’m still open to other ideas.

Table styles are the way to do this. Look up the online help and note that any of the table styles can be set as the default.

I am on a Word 2000 machine at the moment so I can’t give you any more guidance than that but if you are using Word 2002 or 2003 then it is very worthwhile to learn how to manipulate Word’s table styles.

Now that I know where to look, table styles also seem useful. I’ll have to explore that more – but it may be more than I need.

I like this – wrote a macro for it and put it on my toolbar already.
