I have an old email that is compromised and I have to delete it.  My MS account has 3 alias emails, but only one can logon to the account:
    1. The primary alias that I use to logon.  I try to limit usage of this and use it only for MS logon. It’s also my appleid.
    2. An email alias used for account logons and emails
    3. the compromised account, which is not allowed to logon to MS account and has been removed from all my online accounts.

I see the instructions on how to delete the alias and it is simple, but FINAL!

I’ve tried to cleanup usage of the old id – changed account emails, notified people, etc. What did you do when you deleted your old email – I used this one for about 15 years and I think it will still be used because I can’t find every instance of where it sill resides. I also have some old accounts using it and tried to delete them, but the account holders won’t do it yet. They say they have to keep data for a few years for business reasons –  which I think is baloney – but that’s the way it is.

I will follow the instructions in link above, which is really just logon and click “Remove” next to the alias you want to delete. Simple! But, I don’t want to make any mistakes; I cannot afford to lose my email id.  I am looking for any gotchas, advice, input, suggestions on deleting an old MS alias without causing any issues. thanks! Donna

I can’t see any problems – if you accidentally try to remove your primary email, it will apparently warn you.  BTW, the link is missing a ‘2’ on the end:

in case that helps others help you.  Martin

Deleting an alias means all email to it will bounce.
If the people who use it have another way to contact you, all is well. If they don’t, do you care? (Not caring about such things is an option in my world)

      cheers, Paul

I really want the emails to bounce, they’re almost all junk and phishing!! I would only want legitimate emails, but I’ve waited a while before deleting the id so anything that came in  I updated/changed/notified.

There is a possibility I get a legitimate email (you know when you use an email for over 15 years it gets put in so many places, it’s hard to uncover them all).  I agree people should have another way to contact me – I guess it depends on who it is and what they want if I care 🙂!  The thing is, once in a while something important still shows up.  E.g.I did not realize the id was the recovery email for my husband’s email account, found out by chance and updated it.  It’s also probably imbedded in the systems of my old employers.  But I won’t worry about it. 😁 Nothing I can do! This email has got to go – the baddies have it. Thanks.
