Delete pre-install of 2010, b4 installing

We just bought new PC’s that were ordered with Office Pro 2010. I’ve read that these pre-installations are 32-bit only. If we prefer (after reading 64-bit Office 2010, is it worth it? of course) to use 64-bit we have to download it, which we did.

We have not attempted to run any Office installation yet. I would like to first delete the pre-installation folders and files first, but I can’t find them. Does anyone know where they reside in Windows 7 Pro?

I can’t answer your question about where (or whether) you can find Office installation files on an OEM system.

Regarding 64 bit, unless you work with huge Excel models, I don’t think it’s worth the potential incompatibility hassles.

Hope it is acceptable to answer my own question. If not, my apologies.

For my initial search, I had neglected to “show hidden files, folders and drive”, which is why all the most logical locations were coming up blank.

OEM Office 2010 installation files are located as follows:

Office Starter Edition 2010
C:ProgramDataMicrosoftOEMOffice14OStarter

Office Pro 2010
C:ProgramDataMicrosoftOEMOffice14Office14

BTW, this link explains how to install the 64-bit version without having to download it. Just substitute the DVD with the folders on the hard drive as listed above.

The 64 Bit edition has fewer features than the 32 Bit edition, and as Jeff states unless you are working with huge excel files, you do not need the 64 Bit capabilities. There may be substantial compatibility issues with the 64 Bit edition. You might be better off keeping the 32 Bit edition.

Thanks guys for the words of caution, but we had already done our homework (thanks to WindowsSecrets) before deciding on 64-bit.
