deleted datastore, no history and updater stuck at checking

I recently deleted datastore looking for room. I know now it doesn’t give you much. Anyway, update ht history gone and checking for updates ran for 24hrs and with no results I closed it. Anybody know how to fix this? I am not a savvy IT person. I can get around with some instruction. Please help. I know I shouldn’t have deleted that, but I had no idea that it would do this. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

You know I am really at a loss to know exactly what your talking about. We need some more specifics about your system to help. Perhaps if you could give use the Full Paths to what you deleted? Do you have any backups? I gather your OS is W 8.1 but which one?

Anything more than that I would be guessing but my guess is around Windows Update???

If it is and it falls into line with what I call Deep Cleaning, it MAY NOT be as bad as you think??? Yes one will lose the WU Histroy, which is not the end of the world.

Manually download & install the following updates for Windows 8.1:

KB3173424 – Servicing Stack update for Windows 8.1, July 12, 2016

KB3172614 – July 2016 Update Rollup for Windows 8.1

You can NOT install KB3172614 without having either KB3021910 or KB3173424 already installed.
KB3172614 (and the superseded KB3161606) contains the Windows Update Agent version 7.9.9600.18340 which should greatly speed up the “checking for updates” with Windows Update on Win8.1 – the Windows Update fix was mentioned in Microsoft support KB article 3163023.
