    Word 2007
I regularly use a drawn shape in a MS Word document like ‘half a square’ for bracketing. I don’t like the standard MS ‘Left brace’ shape or ‘Left Bracket’ shape.
I create it either with three lines carefully aligned, or I draw a square and then a no-line white square over half of it. All very messy.
How can I create a new shape for inserting regularly?
    Thanks for any ideas.

Would it work to insert a picture? You could save each one (LeftOpen and RightClose) as AutoText (or Building Block, assuming that works similarly) for easier use.

I don’t know if you can add it to the autoshapes but you should be able to add it as a quick part and then insert it from that menu.

Yes, can add it to Quick parts; that works quite well.
I’ll try it in 2010 to see if I can customise the Insert, Shapes part of the Ribbon
