Design Templates (PowerPoint 2003)

I created a PowerPoint presentation with 10 slides and a picked a “Design Template” from the Task Pane. All my slide backgrounds are the same.

Someone sent me a PowerPoint presentation and I want to add one of their slides to my presentation. I open both presentationa and go to the slide sorted view and drag the one slide into my presentation. When I do that the slide I add to my prsentation how has the same background that I was using on my presenation. I didn’t want the background to change. I want toe background to stay the same it was in their presentation. How do I do that??

Also, the presentation I received, how do I get that Desgin Template to show up in my Design Template list in the Task pane so I could use it again?

Good afternoon

1) If you open the slide master and insert the slide it should create a seperate page so that when viewed the normal slides show along with the new one with the different design

2) ‘File’ ‘Save As’ select Design Template

To make a design template as Steve said.

To get the slide into your presentation. In the original use: Insert > Slides from file
Navigate to the one needed and check keep source format.

If you use your”drag” method you may see a “Paste Option” button which will allow you to choose “Source format” If not it can be enabled in Tools >Options

I just learned this last night from the PowerPoint help. Sometimes it does come in handy.

1. Open the 2 presentations as you’ve done.

2. Drag the slide you want from the source presentation to the receiving presentation as you’ve done.

3. Activate the source presentation and click on the slide you just dragged over in the slide panel on the left of that window.

4. Click on the Format Painter on the toolbar.

5. Click on the receiving presentation to activate it again. You should see the paint brush but this first click is just activating the receiving presentation

6. Click on the slide panel on the slide you want to change on the receiving side. You should still have the paint brush. This will change that slide to look like what was in the source presentation.

Note that when you drag a slide over from a source presentation to a receiving presentation, the copied slide in the receiving presentation will look like the one after which it is placed. So if yu have slides with different design templates in the receiving presentation, the copied slide will take on the design template of the slide after which it is placed.

Also note that if you select several slides in the receiving presentation after step #2 (e.g., using Shift to select a consecutive set of slides or Ctrl to select specific slides), then when you click in #6, all of the selected slides will take on the design template from the source presentation.
