Hi all. Being on a mission to make my mouse as redundant as possible I am seeking to use as many keyboard shortcuts as possible – even progressively assigning custom ones as I go. I know the word I am to use * is not that of the experts but both WITH & WITHOUT files minimized to the task bar, I often want to open a file on the desktop without clicking it with the mouse. I know that e.g. if I click an icon once I can then select any other by using the arrow keys but it is this first click with the mouse that I want to eliminate. Very spasmodically hitting the “Alt” key “Activates” * “Energizes” * the desktop as does F6 though not always but I suspect there must be a sure way to do this so would be glad to know it. Thank you SF

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerOctober 19, 2007 at 7:47 pm #1080244Thanks again HanzV, I also by chance discovered that with the desktop on screen and files minimised to the task bar the F6 key activates the first file there and the others can be selected with the Left – Right arrow keys and opened by hitting the “Enter” key. Just thought I would mention it for the benefit of others who may be interested in keyboard short cuts. Of course it may be beneficial to some to mention that the icons of the files minimised to the task bar can be viewed in a pop up frame by hitting the Alt + Tab keys together then selected by holding the Alt key whilst hitting the Tab key repeatedly. Whichever icon one pauses on will open when the Alt key is released. Regards S Fox
