If there is an image file (jpg, gif, etc ) on the Windows 7 desktop, what do you see? Is the icon that of the default image viewing program? Or, is the icon a small version of the image itself? I have seen Windows 7 do both. One computer user had their system change from small pictures to the default viewer icon and wants to change back. I don’t know what controls this. Thanks in advance.

      Found the answer.

One of defensive steps for a recent Windows 7 font bug that will, of course,  not be fixed has to do with configuring Windows explorer. The computer belonged to a client of mine and I had just made these config changes.

Did not put two and two together, however. Did not realize the connection between Windows Explorer options and images stored on the desktop.

Specifically, Organize -> Folder and Search options -> View tab. The first option is to always show icons and never show thumbnails. To be safe from the Windows 7 bug, one of the steps is to turn this on.
