Desktop Icons Disappeared

Good afternoon.  My computer guru is out of town and I need some help.  The five or six icons I had on my desktop screen have vanished.  Don’t know what happened but suspect Microsoft trying to switch me to Edge or Chrome, etc. caused it and I can’t get them back.  Have some of the little icons  in the tray on the lower right but none of the big ones on my screen —  no Recycle Bin,  Firefox, Adobe Reader, Email Address, etc.  Have gone to the start button and pinned some to the tray below but want main ones larger and  on the desktop.  Appreciate and suggestions you can offer.  Thanks.

Have you tried Restarting (not Shut down and Power up) your computer.

In the taskbar search box, type winver and press Enter.
Tell us what version and Build of Win10 you are running and whether it’s Home or Pro Edition.

I am using Windows 10 Home version with 21H2 and I have already tried restarting, in fact, several times.

Do you use any program like Start10 or Fences?  If you doubleclick really fast twice on the desktop, Fences will hide the icons.

Not familiar with the Start 10 or Fences.  Of course, it is possible I did double click on the desktop trying to get the uninvited Microsoft stuff off.

Right-click on the desktop, then hover on View and make sure Show desktop icons is checked. If not, click there to check that.

Finicky things these Windows 10 controlled computers aren’t they.

Being 20 something in the 70's was so much better than being 70 something in the insane 20's
