Occasionally some of my desktop icon appear with a blue & white ‘clock’ in the lower left corner.

    What is this all about?

Mine has a small blue, curved arrow with a white background in the lower left corner, pointing to the shortcut icon. Never seen a clock. Did you change any themes in Settings>Display per chance?

      Nothing changed in any settings.

I tried googling it and found nothing. I’ve never heard of what you are describing. Sorry 🙁

Do you run any third party tweaking or cleaning tools?

Did you apply some third party Windows theme?

As Joe suggests, those shortcut icons aren’t from W10. It looks like only your documents and applications have them, not the windows icons.

It sounds as if you have some sort of strange shortcut overlay. Perhaps this site can help you out.

      Code:

Restarted the system and it returned to the normal shortcut arrow.

          There ya go!

I may go ‘there’ however, I would like to understand where I was and why.

Glad to hear that it was resolved. If you figure out what happened, post back.

That’s really strange. Invaded by the Tick-Tock man?

To be honest, I was never quite sure why someone at MS thought it would be a good idea to add the shortcut arrow overlay to icons in the first place. I don’t give a rats butt if an icon is a shortcut or not. To me, it’s just useless clutter. At the very least, it should be a simple option just like other display options to display it or not.
